The Driverless Car Problem

In an urban lifestyle, we feel that we need to always be connected to our digital tools, but is it worth the risk of getting in an accident. Yes, it would be wonderful to be able to not pay attention and have our car take us wherever we need to go. However, we are still going to need to pay attention to traffic. We will need to be able to take over in case the driverless car’s computer system goes down. We need to learn that sending text messages or reading something off the internet can wait until we get home. There are technical issues that could go wrong with a computer system and we need to be ready to take control at any time. The most important issue to think about is that the driverless car system can be hacked just like a computer. This poses so many issues that can cause accidents and fatalities. Until they are able to figure out a way that the computer system in a driverless car cannot be hacked then I do not feel they are a good choice because of the potential risks.

The semi-trucks are the major contributors of the damage to the roads and not the cars. Therefore, there will still be road maintenance like there is today. People are not going to want to share their driverless cars with others because we like to have control of when we want to be able to go somewhere. We are not going to want to wait for our driverless car to come back to leave the mall or somewhere else. Therefore, having driverless cars is not going to reduce land needed for parking lots.
