4: How does Forrest Gump as a character demonstrate the American Dream in the personal perspective?
Despite Forrest’s portrayal of the American Dream at the national perspective, he also demonstrates it in the personal perspective. Forrest is a loving, loyal, considerate, sincere, and determined character.
He is an all time good son, both when he is in school, and when he joins the army. He never forgets about his mother and always tries his best to make her mother be proud of him, which she does. They joined the Vietnam War together, but, unfortunately, Bubba got shot during the war. At first Forrest ran and got to a safe area, however, he then realized that he had lost Bubba, so he ran back to the battlefield and tries to find him. On his way, he saw other injured soldiers in his team, so he brought them to the safe area. Each time when he ran back and tries to find Bubba, he saw other soldiers asking for help and so he brought each and everyone of them to the safe area, risking his life to rescue them. He never gave up finding Bubba. When he finally found Bubba, the latter had already got shot in his leg and couldn’t walk, so Forrest carried him, and on their way back to the safe area, their enemy begins to bomb the place and so Forrest had to keep running with Bubba at his back, where Forrest got shot in his buttock. He successfully transferred Bubba to the safe place, but sadly Bubba didn’t make it. After Bubba left and Forrest recovered, he never forgets about the dream him and Bubba talked about when they are in the army, to buy a shrimp boat where Bubba will be the captain and he would be the xxx. So when Forrest got out from the army, he spent all the money he has earned through being in an advertisement, to buy a shrimp boat and became the captain instead, in order to achieve Bubba’s dream.
