The word ‘Feminism’ essentially refers to a series of movements and ideologies that began in the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century and were focused on establishing equal rights for women. The Oxford Dictionary defines Feminism as, “The advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.” Seems fair right? Then why is it that people in today’s world look down upon feminists? Why is it that the concept of Feminism, which was originally meant to be a ‘good thing’, got such a bad press in the recent times? Even though feminism deals with women’s rights, quite a few men are a part of this movement too, as it frees them from the socio-cultural chains of sexism and gender roles. Feminism not only advocates women’s rights but also opposes the unrealistic standards a patriarchal form of society sets up for males. For example, a patriarchal society sets ridiculous standards about masculinity and how a man ‘should be’. It is patriarchy that says that men are incapable of controlling their animalistic instincts and are incapable of change. Feminism on the other hand, believes that men are far more capable than that.
So yes, boys can be feminists too because feminism is beneficial for all
