The Dragon Amulet
“This is unfair, unjust!” Michelle went on like this every day, although her rant was particularly long today. Michelle’s sister, Opal stared out the window as the fall leaves drifted across the small city.
“Shh,” said Opal, “I’m reading about the Dragon Amulet. It’s a magical amulet. People say it has a mind of its own.”
“That’s just a silly legend, Opal. Now let’s focus on reality. There’s a dragon taking over our city.”
The dragon was mean and unpredictable, but the people tolerated it because the dragon gave them food. If the people did something the dragon didn’t like, such as challenging the dragon’s power, they were punished. One time a villager went to ask the dragon for extra meals, but was punished with a burn on her arm before she even had the opportunity to ask. As a result, people were afraid to do

Our town is in danger, and I want to help them.” Opal stood up and began walking towards home.

It had been 10 days since Michelle had seen her sister. She was tired, cold, and for the first time, she was scared. She wished she had gone home with Opal. Opal was right. There was no way Michelle could kill the dragon. She could hear the sound of her heart beating when she came upon a small, stone building, where, rumor had it, the dragon lived. The building was smaller than she expected. Maybe the dragon was also smaller. Now she felt a little more confident. She just wished her sister was there with her. She had no idea what the dragon was capable of.
“Michelle! Michelle! I’m here!” It was Opal, who was out of breath. She was running as fast as she could. “Okay, if we’re killing a dragon, you’re doing it, because now I’m worn out.”
“Opal?” Michelle didn’t know what to say. So many thoughts were going through her head. “What are you doing here?”
“Uh, slaying a dragon and saving our city.”
“I thought you didn’t want to

Many Asian folktales and myths portray Eastern Dragons as friendly towards people and generous in their rewards. In the legend of “The Four Dragons,” the dragons saw that there was a terrible drought in China, causing “the crops [to] wither, the grass [to] turn yellow and fields [to crackle] under the scorching sun,” (E1). When the dragons saw the people’s suffering, they grew very upset and decided to appeal to the Jade Emperor, who agreed to send down rain. However, ten days pass and there was still no rain; they decided to try to make rain themselves using ocean-water, saving the people’s crops.…

Dragons are found in a symbolic aspect in Star Wars as were found in the Hobbit. Anakin Skywalker and the Emperor are our metaphorical dragons in this case. In many stories, the character of a dragon usually serves as a metaphor for greed; this is very apparent in the Hobbit through Smaug but is evident in Star Wars as well. In Star Wars, the dragon is the dark side: primarily, Anakin and the Emperor.…

    Becoming The Dragon

Review of Becoming the Dragon by Alex Sapien While this book was at times very engaging and well written, I cannot even say there were any grammatical errors that I came across, I would rate this book a 2 out of 4 stars. Becoming the Dragon is a story about a young man Andy, and his journey through a portal to another world that has the typical fantasy cast (i.e. elves, gnomes, and of course dragons), and how he is put in several situations that lead to him becoming a dragon. This book feels like it could honestly have been 3 books had someone else written it, but instead it is one book that even after reading it feels like there was no real plot. The book starts out in our world, and you get a small glimpse into Andy's home life.…

Yet, this dragon is acting in the only way it knows how. Its natural instinct is to destroy anything in its path until it finds what it is seeking. The dragon’s reaction is not unlike a child having a temper tantrum. Children will whine, cry, scream, run around, and even break things until they either get what they want or grow tired of its tantrum and accept their fate. This dragon is only having a temper tantrum.…
