The development of the downtown Fredericksburg and Central Park area presents a unique opportunity for the establishment of a nightclub. Light’s Out will host DJ’s from the area to remix music and create new playlists. Currently in the market there are no nightclubs located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Fredericksburg primarily offers small, local late night pub and bar options. College students in the area are tired of the existing sports bar and tavern atmospheres and often look for venues in other major cities or college towns. Many of the bars and pubs in Fredericksburg do not offer a large space to dance. Another common issues is that there is a lack of energy and excitement with very little variety of entertainment at the current establishments. Lights Out intends to address these concerns by providing a large emphasis on dancing and live entertainment in the downtown area. This will offer a very social atmosphere for the prospective market. Secondly, music will controlled by DJ’s that will be responsible for playing a variety of music options that will keep the entertainment exciting and new. As mentioned earlier, the club will offer two levels, a black light glow-bar lounge and a large black light dance floor area with a DJ space. The club will offer theme nights based on holidays or special events within the community. There will be a cover charge for entry per night. Advanced ticket and cover charge sales will be able to be purchased online. Free glowsticks will be offered

New Belgium Brewery is concerned about their image and the sanctity of their brand. By associating New Belgium Brewery with the word folly, in the minds of some employees, would mean the brand would suffer as being a “chance” product verses being a company who spent countless hours to create a quality product. The word folly is defined as the lack of good sense or foolish acts (www.dictionary.com, n.d.). To the marketing team point of folly being so removed from American culture, it can be redefined for the purposes of New Belgium Brewery (Ferrell and Hartine, 2014). Folly’s negative connotation dates back to Middle English dating back in the 13th century (www.etymonline.com, n.d.), however, the word folly hasn’t been used since the 1650s.…

Dive bars are broadly defined as a shabby and disreputable establishment—essentially the lowest of quality drinking establishments. Though there are numerous guides to Boston’s “best dive bars,” this complicates the definition of what exactly constitutes what makes a bar a “dive”. If a dive bar is always shabby and seedy, is it possible to be “the best” in being the worst? If so, would the award for the best dive bar actually go to the worst? Many of these common standards that define a dive bar are a series of contradictions.…

Then there’s the whole other race factor: Is concern over “income levels” and “demographic change” just gloss for an underlying assumption—that neighborhoods go south when white people move out and black people move in. If that isn’t enough to roil the revitalization waters, this emerging shift in neighborhood policy rings all kinds of alarm bells about gentrification and social engineering. Baltimore has avoided such prickly issues for the last decade with a community development approach under former Mayor Kurt Schmoke that favored the most decayed sectors in the city. Now, as Mayor Martin O’Malley’s administration begins formulating a new approach that gives greater consideration to neighborhoods that haven’t yet deteriorated those tricky issues threaten to surface. That has raised fears in some quarters of a polemical battle.…
