Mason County High School: A Short Story

Improved Essays
The double doors of Mason County High School soared open at three o 'clock on a sunny spring afternoon. School was out for the summer. Students darted out of the school like they were being chased by something colossal, repugnant, and petrifying. “Ouch!” wailed Tyra as she was pushed down by this gargantuan pack of mad wolves sprinting as if they had their eyes on prey. Tyra continued on, “The boys at this school are SO annoying and immature!” “Atleast boys give you attention. I would do anything to have boys talk to me the way that they talk to you,” stated Lindsay aggravated. “Lindsay, you are one of the most popular girls at this school. Who cares if boys give you attention; you get attention from every girl that steps foot in these hallways. …show more content…

She had naturally curly, brown hair which was almost always pulled up in a loose ponytail. Her eyes were a sort of emerald green, and she had freckles so ever slightly that one could only see them if they were within a few inches of her face. A boy may notice them as he leaned in to kiss her, but she had never kissed a boy. She had never had a boyfriend. No boys paid her any attention because she was a “good girl”. She wouldn’t sneak out for them, and she wasn’t “hot” per …show more content…
I suppose i 'll just go by myself then. See you later, goober!” Her mother was smiling as she walked out of the door. Lindsay decided that she was going to relax that afternoon before going back to work that night. She sat on the couch in the living room and turned on the tv. The news immediately came on, and there was a picture on the screen. The picture was of a scary looking man wearing a red flannel. He was wanted...for murder. “Oh my God...holy….no freaking way!” Lindsay was screaming and crying when she heard a knock on the door. She stood up and walked to her front door. Before opening it, she looked through the peephole. There was no one standing there. She opened the door and saw a folded up piece of paper on the ground. She reluctantly picked it up and opened

If anyone were asked to describe her, feisty, rude, blunt, hostile, anything along those lines would most likely be their response. Ask her counterpart, or a close friend, and it's possible that they would respond a simple "bittersweet". On the off occasion where her blonde roots showed as the pink dye wore away, the dark circles under her eyes would be amplified, and her voice would be uncharacteristically quiet. On those rare days, she wouldn't go out. At least not to more then one place.…

It was the night of September 28th and I could not sleep. I was so nervous because the next morning I had my audition for North Carolina High-School Honors Choir. Although I practiced for weeks and sang for my chorus teacher countless times, I never knew of what could have happened in my five minute audition. I would have to warm up and sing an excerpt of the audition piece “Sing Ye to the Lord.” Then I would have 60 seconds to study an 8-measure line of sight singing.…
