When looking for a new puppy, it’s human nature to pick out the cutest dog. While this may seem logical, potential pet owners need to take into account not only the physical attributes of the animal but also the breed’s personality. Pet owners need to consider their lifestyles before making the decision to buy a puppy. Families will chose a golden retriever but have no time to play with it and then just leave it locked up or it will tear up their house. This is unfair to the dog and the owners. People need to be more informed as to what they are getting themselves into.
Besides torn up furniture or ruined carpets, what does choosing the wrong dog really matter? It matters a lot. Not only could the wrong breed ruin a house or apartment due to lack of attention or exercise, they could hurt a child or owner. Carson is an avid gardener and her yard is always spotless. Adopting a Great Dane wasn’t really the best option for her lifestyle. However, she managed to cope by training him. She encourages pet owners to “know their breed” because this is essential to training (Carson).
