“The screen is taking over our lives”
Alienation is something that is all too familiar these days with the constant use of technology. People are starting to feel more and more alone even when surrounded by a group of people. Technology has come a long way over the past few years. People can communicate with others all over the world with a click of a button. We have so much technology and information at our finger tips and most people are constantly on their phones that when actually in the room with people it is easy to get lost in the glow from the screen. The Coca Cola avatar ad, ”I Forgot my phone” and “The Pleasure of the Text” provide ways that people are alienated on daily basis and no one seems to think twice about it. …show more content…
Is it the phones that we should be upset about or the people’s lack of respect for others? Don’t get me wrong, technology is a wonderful thing especially that we are able to communicate or send a message to family members or friends all over the world. It is also a major convenience now to the world we live in. We are in a fast paced society where everything needs to be done like NOW! We can check in with our children, do our banking and order dinner all through our phone. But when we begin to alienate the people who are around us on an everyday basis it may be time for a change. Alienation is defined as ”the state or experience of being isolated from a group or an activity to which one should belong or in which one should be involved.” If we continue down the path that we are on what will happen for future generations? We already see now that kids are younger and younger using technology and they are seeing their parents, friends, and others on their phones. If the internet was down for one day what would people do? Would kids know how to go to a library and actually look up information? If we continue to alienate people at this rate we are bound to have a society of people who don’t know how to socialize with each other. We are so involved with technology and electronics it is easy to miss out on the people and things going on around us like
