Puzzles When Hate Came To Town Analysis

On Wednesday, February 1, 2006, an 18 year old boy, Jacob Robida, entered Puzzles, a gay night club, in New Bedford, Massachusetts and performed an act of violence inside the club. Puzzles: When Hate Came to Town, is a documentary that walks us through that night and the days after, Jacob entered Puzzles night club and performed a hate crime, injuring 3 victims. In the documentary you hear the victims’ recollection of that night and also here Jacob’s friends describe his character. In the documentary, Jacob is described by his friends as a Nazi, racist, Caucasian, teenage male. Jacob kept a journal and would often write racial slurs about Jewish, African Americans, and the LGBT community. Many of his friends thought that this was simply a phase and that Jacob would eventually grow out of it. Sadly, we will never know if Jacob would have grown out of the phase, because two days after his attack at Puzzles, he was involved in car chase with officers and was shot - 3 days later, Jacob would succumb from his injuries. I think Kevin would benefit from individual and family counseling sessions. I would first meet with Kevin alone and build a rapport. Some questions I would ask Kevin would be: How did he first feel when his father came out to him? How was the relationship following the revelation? If thing were strained, how are they now? Has his perception of his father changed since the revelation? I need to find out Kevin’s age? Why is it difficult to let his friends know about his father being gay? What is his perception of the LGBT community- Before and after his father’s revelation?
