The documentary “Addicted to Plastic” was truly an eye opener for me. It was amazing to learn of the numbers in tons that as a nation that we throughout, not only in our nation but worldwide. Not to mention the damage that we are doing to our environment and the harm to wildlife that the discarded plastics are doing. Most people will throw out a plastic bottle without even thinking about where it will end up or the troubles that it could create. I know I am guilty, but I do recycle. Surprisingly not all items make of plastic are recyclable. According to the City of Jacksonville’s Recycling page plastic bags are not to be inserted into the recycle bin. It is no wonder plastic bags in up in the land fields or in our water ways. Society does not

Strengths: Mike Biddle presents many strengths in his presentation such as how he captivates the audience in the beginning by helping them visualize how younger children perceive things around them and how they always want more. He adds a humoristic tone in his introductory statements but quickly gears the audience to a more serious outlook about recycling. He goes into depth about how 90 percent of the stuff that we recycle is reused for other purposes which makes the audience agree with him that recycling is beneficial. He then was able to talk about how plastic is a valuable material and only five percent of it is recycled. I think he did a good job talking about how we recycle metals more than we do plastics which emphasizes that we’re not recovering valuable materials that is harder to obtain.…

The Surfrider Foundation creatively exemplifies what human pollution and carelessness is resulting in such as creating compelling ads like “Fossil, Bag”. Trash islands, which is a result from human pollution, clutters the oceans as well as contaminates marine biology with plastic and plastic components. Unfortunately, humans will continue to contribute to the trash islands and the marine life epidemic by throwing their plastic products out the window and onto the ground as they live their irresponsible lives. The vicious cycle of human carelessness is resulting into the consumption of their very own trash: plastic bags and plastic products. The more that plastic is produced and dumped into the ocean, the more prevalent plastic really is within human daily life, as well as inside…

Before we even begin on our epic monologue on the reusable bag, we should inform you on this country’s never-ending addiction: plastic. Americans use and throw away 100 billion plastic bags every year. The appalling magnitude of that number is simply incomprehensible. Plastic bags are detrimental to our environment in numerous ways, primarily because they are not biodegradable.…

The documentary “Tapped” sheds some light on the dangers of bottled water. One of my favorite points the documentary talks about is how the thousands and thousands of plastic water bottles are affecting us and our world. Yes, while bottled water may be convenient for us humans who are always going and going, it's not very convenient for the rest of the world. Our environment was not grown with plastic. Plastic is not nature based, therefore it is not organic, meaning it can’t decompose, or give anything to the environment except pollution, death, and trash.…

Seventy percent of garbage ends up sinking to the bottom of the ocean and ends up damaging the ocean floor. Imagine if Professor Zamilla dumps seventy percent of her garbage into your home. Soon, it will begin piling and piling up, until you are forced to move out of your home, or end up dying in the rubbish. Most of us have been to either a lake or a beach. You remember seeing the waves crashing onto the shore, little kids screaming and making sand castles, and smelling the salty ocean air.…

As the documentary goes on they show how much trash they had generated in one week, and that was a moment that I noticed how much trash I actually produce at home, because of the amount of snacks and things that come in packages I buy and consume in a week, and I realized that reducing the amount of trash that I produce in a week is one of the main things that I have to change in my life in order to be more…

That was a shocking thing to learn. I agree but also thought it was shocking that the Government, trash and recycling companies do not understand why there are many landfilled for garbage. The landfilled make no use for the trash; some of the items can be recycled because they can become very valuable. Another thing I agree with that is shocking was that they mentioned “We waste because we haven’t been told that its okay to waste” I believe it true, as kids most of the time we would eat some of our food and throw the rest away. I know in my family it was very easy to throw away food although my parents always told us not to waste.…

Plastic recycling and reusing can become very tricky because the dependence is on location and what types of plastic can be recycled in that factory. Plastics can only be down cycled, meaning they can't be used to make the same quality product and eventually have to go to landfill. Plastics are toxic to produce and don't biodegrade only break down into smaller toxic pieces. Recycling has lead to the over use of plastics and give people the false sense that plastics aren't polluting because they can be recycled. In the article “When Recycling Is Bad for the Environment” by Rachel Cernansky explains the adverse effects of recycling plastic.…

Disposable plastic is so popular because it is so convenient to throw away after consumption. However, there are too many externalities. Although they are convenient, I have become much more conscious about using plastic in the past few years because of the negative effects it has on the environment. This has become a global issue; plastics have become such a staple in human lives that we are having trouble cutting back on its consumption. Plastics have spoiled us with convenience and ease that it is actually troublesome to stop using them.…

These seemingly harmless fragments “absorb toxins that pollute our waterways, contaminate our soil, and sicken animals (which we then eat)” (Schriever). Despite the plastics potential to be recycled and used for additional products, “eighty percent of the water bottles we buy end up in landfills” (Schriever). While settling in landfills, the plastic fragments from water bottles become “environmentally poisonous time bombs” (Schriever). For example, “Pollution is estimated to be one of the biggest causes of death around the world, affecting more than 100 million people per year, more than epidemics like Malaria and HIV” (Schriever).…

We often hear of zero plastic campaigns and may even find many stores that have implemented a no plastic system in their stores. These is because one of a major cause of pollution is the littering of plastic and the increasing plastic problems affecting everone around the world. Plastic has been known to help us in a lot of ways as it is used as a convenience such as packaging food, plastic bottles, wrapper, disposable forks and even as to contain all our groceries in one plastic bag. It is easy to see why people choose to believe that plastic has more advantages rather than disadvantages. This type of ignorance is thereason why plastic waste is one our biggest problem today.…
