Doctrine And Covenants Analysis

In this week’s reading, the question I had comes from section 82 of the Doctrine and Covenants. In verse three it says “unto whom much is given much is required.” I was questioning what this meant.
First I need to know what is given to me. After pondering this question, I realized that we are given so much. Not only does this mean that we are given blessing for the things that we do, but we are given much more than that. We are given prophets, apostles, and other church leaders. These leaders are given to us for our benefit, so that we may be guided. Our leaders are here to guide us and the other members of the church. From the prophet who receives revelation to lead and guide the church to a bishop who guides his ward to the primary president

We may slip up at times, but if we turn to God with a sincere heart and contrite spirit, we can use the atonement of Jesus Christ to help us to return back to the iron rod. Through the atonement it is possible for us to return to our Father in Heaven. Once again this is where this scripture comes in. We have been given so much. We have been given a Savior who will save us from our sins. We are all sinners, but Christ loved us all so much that he suffered for all of our sins. Although we strive not to commit sins, we do slip up at times. We have been given the greatest gift of all. In order to use the atonement, we are required to realize we have sinned. We are required to humble ourselves. There is so much good that comes from what we are required to give and do for Father in …show more content…
Burton in a talk “Prepared in a Manner That Never Had Been Known” from 2014 talks about how it is obvious that a divine being who gives us such divine gifts would require so much of us. I realized that God has blessed each and every one of us so greatly. Without him we would not have come to Earth, or received a body. We owe everything we have to God. Compared to what Heavenly Father has given us, what he requires of us is insignificant. We will never be able to fully repay God for all that He has given to us. What we can do is strive to do all that is required of us, slowly and surely in every way that we can. If we do all that we can, through the grace of Jesus Christ we can be saved. We must give our full effort to do all that is required of us, and we will be saved in the last

It is more blessed to give than receive” and Luke 6:38, “...For the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” We as mankind are selfish creatures, and that is not how God created us in the beginning to be, sin caused us to become selfish. God created us to love one another and to carry each other's burdens ergo we must serve each other and our God. Plantinga puts it this way: “According to God’s intelligence, the way to thrive is to help others to thrive; the way to flourish is to cause others to flourish; the way to fulfill yourself is to spend yourself” (pg. 22). Look at a husband and wife relationship… when one is serving the other (without the expectation of a counteraction), does that relationship not flourish?…

It is apparent that the church was influential over Scottish citizens and their legitimacy originated and gained power through the National Covenant. This particular document was a unity between the monarch as well as the citizens and, most importantly, God in an attempt to uphold what was seen as right. The document cites many acts of parliament in an attempt to legitimize the ideas being presented and make them appear to be valid. Therefore, the National Covenant was imperative in aiding the church in leading the public believe that is was their duty to uphold God’s will even if this meant the prosecution and execution of innocent individuals. Likewise, the church’s status and power influenced individual communities to persecute witches.…

By 1776, the Second Continental Congress decided that the 13 Colonies will be fighting for independence in the Revolutionary War, thus making them in need for a legal base of permanent union as States. A year later in November 1777 the Congress issued what it is considered today to be the first constitution of the United States: “The Articles of Confederation”. This written document was setting up a loose confederation of states, citing that: “each State retains its sovereignty, freedom and independence, and every power, jurisdiction and right” (Goldfield, 176-7). Philosopher G.K. Chesterton once said that “America is the only nation in the world that is founded on Creed. When he said this he was referencing the Declaration of independence which lays out our beliefs and goals for all to see. The founding of the United States was revolutionary, not purely because we replaced one ruler for another or because we over threw an oppressive institution but because we placed political authority in the hands of the people. Nearly every Nation that has been and will ever be has found purpose and defined their existence based on some sort of unifying quality be it religion, geography, history or ethnicity. This is where America stands alone.…

All are given at least one spiritual gift, and despite the different gifts, everyone is gifted in a unique way. Some spiritual gifts are more prominent than others, and a spiritual gifts test is helpful in discerning different gifts. However, tests should not excuse people from gifts they do not enjoy. For example, the service of hospitality should not be neglected because one does not like having people in their home.…

The Wesley Understand of Human Salvation What is salvation? The salvation which is here spoken of is not what is frequently understood by the word, the going to heaven, eternal happiness. …… It is not a blessing which lies on the other side of death….it is a present thing….[it] might be extended to the entire work of God , from the first dawning of grace in the soul till it is consummated in glory (Maddox 143). Albert C. Outler noted that this sermon has the most extensive history of oral preaching behind it of any of the written sermons; therefore, he recommended it as the best single essay by which to judge Wesley’s soteriology (Maddox 323). Wesley denied here that human salvation is only a future hope; Wesley was also denying that it is…

Introduction into this book and videos covers how we need to set long term goals, but before doing so we need to ask ourselves some questions. Before we can set those goals we should seek to know Christ. This can be done by reading the four gospels and seeing what Jesus did, what we can learn from him, and how does it relate to us? Jesus’ last commandment was to go and make disciples, and while principles never change, our methods have to change in order to reach the current generation, and each beyond. As we get into the chapters we learn that men are God’s method and while they may seem unlearned or ignorant by man’s standards, God uses those willing to learn and raises them into leadership.…
