My Interest As A Career Of Public Health

I am writing to inform you of my interest in the Doctor of Public Health program in Epidemiology at Georgia Southern University Jiann‑Ping Hsu College of Public Health.
Aldous Huxley says “Experience is not what happens to a man: it is what a man does with what happens to him”. Being a victim of typhoid fever outbreak while I was a senior in high school in Nigeria, West Africa; the death of my favorite uncle from the co-infection of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C, tailored my career towards communicable diseases and public health. The failures of public health system; a norm in Sub–Saharan Africa which account for why Africa had, and still has the highest number of casualties from communicable diseases, is the reason why I have an interest in public

Secondly, the field of public health is a call to serve, its rewards transcend beyond the pay, the job satisfaction that comes from improving the health and well-being of people on a daily basis is priceless. People, in their millions are alive and healthy today because of several public health programs. When it comes to public health, it is all about the greater good of the human race; this is one of the goals of public health that I resonate with me. Lastly, public health is arguably the only profession that brings professionals from various walks of life working together as a team for the common good of a community, state, nation and the world at large. Working for one of these organizations would be an opportunity to contribute my own little quota in improving population health. However, I am open to conducting research and being a faculty in a public health school to train aspiring epidemiologists.
