This dissertation explores the division of community into different societal classes in the Harry Potter series and will focus on the treatment of marginal groups in the story. Power and the upper classes of the community are portrayed in a very pessimistic way since their only concern is protecting their supremacy and eliminating those that they consider worthless of possessing magical power. This work will point out numerous examples of characters who drop out of the norm and how they have unfortunately accepted their position outside of the society. Marxist theory focuses on the class formation and shows how the higher class creates the superstructure whereas the subordinate classes, which include MuggleBorns, wizard’s witches
