I work with people who differ in age, religion, race, and backgrounds. Recently we hired a specialist who works in a connecting department with me. We work together, but we perform separate tasks for customer. As we began to talk more, one day she started up a conversation involving religion. Religion is usually a topic I try to avoid because I have conflicting views in my identifying religion. I identify as a Christian, but do not agree with certain subjects that they believe to be law. She was discussing with me how she used to be very religious, southern Baptist, to be specific. She was telling me how she had become more of an understanding person in the recent past, and less “religious”. She was explaining to me everything she believed to be wrong with an organized religion; how some sins seems to be forgivable, while others were not. We seemed to agree on some of the major issues Christians believe to be sinful. The feeling that someone agreed on the major religion issues as I did was not hard to believe, but someone who was a couple generations older than me agreeing with me was surprising. Usually with the older generation that grew up with a southern Baptist background, they tend to stay that way and don’t really wander from the path. I grew up in the strict setting, where if you did stray from the path you were going to hell. I wasn’t as understanding of other’s beliefs or life styles. As I grew older, I started to form an opinion or my own. It wasn’t till recently that I formed a more medium belief standing. Now I think I am in a happier place. I don’t judge others as near as quickly or write someone off for their desire life style. Even though I tend to not mention my belief with co-workers or classmates, I did discuss it with her. I told her my thoughts on some of the matters, and how it was a relief that someone who grew up similarly to me could change-up religious beliefs and
