Michael Jordan once said, “If you 're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I 've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don 't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don 't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” This quote serves as an example to how your learning will be during the next four years you spend in High School. Most of you reading this letter will say that most of the schooling that you have had up until your freshman year of high school has been a walk in the park. Additionally, this had lead to you enroll in Pre-AP World History thinking that it will be the same as previous. I hate to break it to you but things are going to change and you better be ready to …show more content…
You may have hear some of this stigma from past or present APWH students such as sleepless nights in which they fought sleep to finish either their notes or terms and timelines. Most of the students who partook in this kind of event most likely didn’t follow the Program which Mr. Morales has set up for APWH students so they can succeed. Since I have been following the Program which consists of doing notes on a daily basis and completing terms and timelines before the test on Friday, my grade is almost where I want it to be. The problem is that following the Program means dedicating almost 1 - 2 hours everyday except Friday for APWH. There is only one thing though that truly affects your grade in the class which is your choices. I have chosen to put a relatively small amount of effort in compared with others but have still achieved a good grade. You now have probably come to figure out that one of the greatest challenges you will face in APWH is staying on track with the Program. The only other challenges you will also face are learning to understand the bigger picture (concepts) and learning to write like a master. Though the class will be a daunting task once you have finished it you will have benefited from it by having gained a new array of skills. These skill range from learning to manage time between school and extracurricular activities, knowing how to take effective notes and be able to remember them, and having a greater understanding of how the modern world has come to be. While all this information will aide you in APWH there is one thing that I would like to end with that will probably be of the greatest aid to you this class which is the choices that you make in this class will determine what your grade will be and that it is your choice to do good or bad in this

Compare the expansion of existing colonies and the establishment of new types of colonies and transoceanic empires between the British and one of the other countries you have studied about in this section. Answer: 1. British: The British, during the age of imperialism, wanted to expand their grasp beyond just India and into Africa. In Africa, the British had quite a bit of trouble colonizing the area because of several factors, first of all, when the British entered Africa, they met a barrage of diseases such as Yellow fever, Sleeping sickness, and Malaria, all of which the native Africans had developed an immunity to over the past several millennia, however these diseases were entirely new to the British and they suffered quite a bit.…

Those who are successful are not the ones who sit and wait for things to come to them, they are the ones who go out and get them. However, life is not always as easy as just going out and getting whatever you want with no struggle or adversity to overcome along the way. A critical part of life and becoming successful is overcoming the many obstacles and adversity that one will face on the path to greatness. Overcoming adversity is crucial; but an equally important aspect to obtaining success is having the mindset to accomplish anything. Ayn Rand, an accomplished philosopher and novelist, epitomizes said mindset with her famous quote, “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”…

    1. Sugar was very important to the people at this time and changed everyday life completely due to its economic and dietary importance. Throughout the years’ sugar became cheaper and available to people in the middle class as well as poor people, because of its availability the symbol of sugar declined or power. “As for sugar, it was transformed from a luxury of kings into kingly luxury of commoners-a purchased luxury that could be detached from one status and transferred in use to another” (Mintz, 96). This quote explains how sugar became useful to everyone because there were large quantities of it.…

Those are all qualities that help people overcome obstacles. The articles “The Contender” by Derek Burnett, “Paralympic Star Makes History On NBA Stage” by E. Lancaster, and “Life in the Red” by Benedict Carey all show how people overcame obstacles to achieve their dreams. After reading and annotating articles about a determined Kyle Maynard, a motivational speaker Blake Leeper, and the patient LaKeisha community, one could make the choice to be strong, to have a positive attitude, and to ‘cut out’ what’s not important. In turn, these strategies can help one achieve one’s dreams, overcome life’s obstacles, and be resourceful in helping one achieve their goals so that one day they may become the person they want to be.…

The amount of work I have to do for an AP class is sometimes overwhelming. For example, in my AP Psychology class I was assigned to read a fifty two page chapter while taking notes and defining all fifty seven vocabulary words; the already arduous task was coupled with my chapter reading and book work for AP U.S. history. To simply write notes on a twenty page chapter of history takes two to three hours at times, so imagine doing more than twice the…

Since starting this class I have noticed how much I write. I journal at least once a week, I’ve had assignments of all kinds that I’ve had papers for, and I spend a great deal of my time on my phone answering messages. I tried my best to get an A in this class, even though I got sick often, and my attendance was poor on the worst days. I tried to participate even when I wasn’t there; for example, I was messaging Garrett argument ideas through Facebook while I as in bed sick. This was one of my favorite classes this semester.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
