Othello Analysis: Distraction of Othello
People come in all shapes, colors, and sizes, but at the end everybody should be treated equally. In Othello by William Shakespeare Othello is respectable and a decent individual, but during the play Othello did face tragedy, I his life which made him become weaker and he lost his confidence and his reputation which was important to him. Race and religion are key elements that Iago uses to undermined Othello. Religion symbolizes who you are as a person and how you perceive situations in your life. In the production Othello, which usually is played as an African but there was a change which was Othello was played by a Pakistani actor named Farhan Tahir. Before Othello kills Desdemona he performs “namaz” which that means he is praying and he is asking god for forgiveness because he is aware that he is about to do a sin by murdering his wife and himself. Desdemona was the light to Othello, life meaning that without his wife, he is sensitive and weak. Othello is turning out the light of the candle and then pouting out the light of Desdemona's life. Iago is known for his reputation for being honest and self-confident. On the other hand, Othello and other characters in the play always refer to him as “honest Iago”. He has set up a false reputation for himself because he wants to destroy Othello. Othello is making his decisions based on appearance, but not in reality. When Iago says, I do hate him as hell pains, yet for necessity of present life, I must show out a red flag sing of love which is indeed sing (Act 2 line 200-202) Iago is pretending to like Othello because he wants to destroy him because he is jealous of Othello because of his race, religion and his position in the military as a general. But during the play Othello had a seizure on stage “my lord is fallin into epilepsy this is his second fit” (Act 4 lines 48-59).
