The Disneyfication of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales The topic of this research paper is to explore the Grimm Fairy Tales in pop culture, the disneyfication of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales as well as feminism of princesses in modern adaptations of the tales movies. The authors were two brothers from Germany, Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. The brothers are well known for their collection of fairy tales but many people don’t know the origins of the stories they wrote. A lot of people know the stories because of Walt Disney but they don’t understand how different the original stories are from the Disney ones. They took away from the original story by adding to it just to make money; the same can be said for many of the other fairy tales written through the ages. Little Snow White is another case of the story changing to fit the silver screen. Released in 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarves is the oldest movie by Disney, but they changed one key aspect of the story. In the Grimm version a poisoned comb is used to harm Snow White but in the movie she is poisoned by an apple that is given to her by her evil stepmother disguised as a witch. The whole purpose of fairy tales is to let your imagination run wild and that’s exactly what Jakob and Wilhelm did for children during their time and years to come. Even now, two hundred years later we are still reading these fairy tales and explaining them to our children. Disney has taken that further by adding in some silly songs, and talking animals, but the appeal is still there. Kids from all sorts of backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities have all watched Disney’s adaptations of the Grimm’s fairy tales, it has taught them simple lessons such as be nice to others, don’t judge a book by its cover. Disney may get a bad rap on sticking their female characters into a set stereotype but they have done well in teaching valuable life lessons, even if they’re a little unconventional and
