For this essay, I have chosen the Disney movie, Mulan. This Disney movie tells a story about a young woman who is having a hard time finding her place in her Chinese culture in that she does not fit into the traditional society at the time. She wants to be able to honor her family in doing the right things but cannot seem to. When a war starts between the Huns and the Chinese, Mulan takes the place of her father who is too old to fight in the war. She goes to fight in the war and had to prove herself in the army but eventually becomes one of the best soldiers and saves China and the Emperor from the Huns. She is able to return home to her family with honor.

Many people today in my culture want to bring honor to their families, someone special or maybe themselves, but find different ways to bring honor to them. Some people choose to bring honor similar to the movie by marrying a certain person and raising a family, or joining the military. A lot of people also bring honor by getting certain jobs or positions, acting in a certain dignity, or owning certain properties. Unlike Traditional values of gender, most people in our culture today have remove that from our culture and have more of equal values in both genders in letting the other gender do more.
