During the time of the signal’s discovery, senior astronomer for SETI, Seth Shostak, could only describe the signal as “interesting”. However, he rhetorically asks, “Could it be another society sending a signal our way?” Shostak, like many other scientists who had heard about the mysterious SETI signal, had hoped for signs of intelligent life beyond Earth and its atmosphere.
As it turned out, the signal was nothing more than interference from a military satellite.
While the signal turned out to be a false alarm, it brings into question whether the benefits of an interaction with intelligent, extraterrestrial life outweigh the negative implications that come with meeting a vastly different group of individuals. However, I hope to introduce the discussion about why “differences” between two species would

Additionally, I can recall many instances where countries or empires have feuded over their differences, but it is more difficult for me to think of instances where different nations have started alliances, and celebrated their differences. For example, if we were to compare an interaction with Earth and an extraterrestrial colony with the alliances between countries such as Liechtenstein and Switzerland, the argument that Earth is prepared to communicate peacefully with another planet is stronger. Both communities share information with each other, and they both succeed. Furthermore, when one country is in trouble, the other is able to help by providing resources and

Alliances were used for protection and many people hoped it would keep peace, it was an agreement between nations to help each other if attacked, but the downside was alliances caused war to spread faster. For example, our alliance with Great Britain was a big factor in our reasoning to join the war, especially because of Lusitania which was a British ocean liner sunk by a German submarine in 1915 and killed 128 Americans, if we hadn’t had this alliance, we might have continued to sit out of the war. Imperialism could be defined as a stronger country controlling a weaker country for its own benefit, it was helpful since lands overseas could provide raw materials needed for our growing industry, but imperialism caused tension which was never good and is most likely a root to…

Although Area 51 keeps everything they do a secret, they do, in fact, have extraterrestrial findings that they keep in possession without the world’s knowledge. There are two locations of Area 51; the first one is located in the Nevada desert within reach of Groom Lake, which is a lake that overtime has dried out. It is not officially confirmed that this site exists, because although you can see it from satellites such as Google Maps, you cannot find it on any government maps.…

Nearly three million years ago, Homo Habilis, one of our earliest ancestors, were wary of anyone who were different in any way, shape, or form, namely those who didn’t look, act, or belong with them.
