Growing up, Mary Anning lived in poverty and made little money selling fossils from Lyme Regis. Anning is not known for her discoveries of fossils because of her social status and her gender during the 1800s. This can be compared to the experiences that women endured in the Langley Memorial aeronautical Laboratory. Women were considered computers instead of actual mathematicians because of their gender and social statuses. Both situations had the same notation that men are at a higher standard and women are below them all. Woman deserve to be recognized at the same level as men no matter their race or social status. To make sure that all my information is correct I will be using information from the Hidden Figures book and the website www.berkeley.edu.
