Campion, anytime a group or team is assembled, there are going to be disagreements, mixed personalities, rude behaviors or disrespectful individuals, and unexpected costs (2009). These types of disadvantages can tear a team apart. One must prepare a game plan just in case these disruptions present themselves. Many people believe groups or teams present disadvantages such as slowed productivity, poor decision making by unqualified personnel, and slower decision making. Whatever one may believe, companies are ultimately left with the question, can we afford it, and is it worth our time? Other disadvantages of teams are compatibility among employees, organization may resist change, “free-riding” within the team, schedule conflicts among shifts, and loss of labor support to affected areas (Campion, 2009). Having past experiences with different situations such as missed deadlines, or procrastination on one’s part will help the team deal or manage each situation. No matter how many teams one participates in, one may still be presented with new situations and different struggles each time. Now one has been educated on the advantages and disadvantages of teamwork the author hopes one too can make sound decisions when assembling a group or team in the future. Remember, the maturation of a team may take time and patience, but the pros definitely out weigh the cons.
