“The Dirty Little Secrets of Getting your Dream Job” by Don Raskin is an exemplary present for junior and senior college students who are preparing to search for their first job and even recent college graduates who are looking to land their first job, a new one or finding career success. The book offers up to all necessary must know little secrets for marketing your job candidacy to landing and securing a dream job. The title itself is well thought and exceptional which makes it irresistible to readers. Personally, before I started reading the chapters, the title amazingly interested me and made me eager to learn more about the information in the book. It is short yet very informational. In this chapter, the author talks about five companies you do not want to work for. For instance, “The group interview company:” the company that try to save themselves time by conducting group interview. Secondly, “the no information company:” the company that provide bare minimum information about the responsibilities of the job. Thirdly, “the we do not train you company:” the company that provide no training and expect employees to pick up thing as they go. The fourth is “the drag your feet company:”this is the one that does not value a candidate's time and make them wait around to get back to them. Lastly is “the bad reputation company:” a company with bad reputation and most likely deserve it. Personally, I agree with the author on these companies except on one. The author consider “the group interview company” as bad, however, I think in same cases it is necessary. For example, if the position interviewing for requires to work independently and the company puts you in a group interview, then that is a bad sign because it might mean that your individual values are not important to them. On the other hand, if the position requires a great amount of team collaboration, a group interview might be necessary to determine how well you can work on a
