The way I see the laws legalizing assisted suicide are mostly infracted by religious organizations and money just like everything else in the world. In 1999 California legislative was faced with passing a bill that would allow legal assisted suicide. This was fought by a group called the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF). The law going to be passed would allow euthanasia to be used in medical practice. The DREDF is a group of aggressive politicians and religious groups that dealt with civil rights issues in America. As you can probably guess the DREDF are not too fond of suicide. They fought off the bill with progressive politics and religious views. The DREDF made a statement that it is not cost effective towards healthcare professionals to legalize euthanasia in medical practice. See it this way profit wise, A person with a severe stage of cancer pays treatment bills around six figures and not all of the time the tests and treatments work. On the other hand we have another patient who has the same stage of caner and pain. Other than that patient going into debt with medical bills, only not to get better they have the option of euthanasia. Euthanasia is extremely cheap in medical practice, the cost is roughly around $35 to $65. Euthanasia prices compared to cancer treatments in late stages are light and day. So once again less money for the government/medical practices to drain out of an already dwindling
