In Michael Rock's Fuck Content essay, he examines the roles of design and the designer, and justifies design as a content just as substantial and influential as other kinds of content, like writing and art. Author sharply responded to the issue of designers, being and becoming authors. Also we are exposed to the idea that designers are often expected to take on multiple roles. Rock’s main gripe with the role of the designer today is their involvement with content, their ability to generate “meaningful” content, and inherent responsibilities to additionally act as an author.…

As a person limited with technology experience, I label myself as being a ‘digital immigrant’. I faced the challenge of creating an infographic and I did not understand how to use Piktochart effectively or to create one that is graphic and visually displayed for the ‘digital natives’ who prefer graphics before paper (Prensky,2001). Initially, I created an infographic about Facebook that looked like advertising. I felt frustrated that a simple task of inserting a line proved difficult and that the templates were ‘too short’ , where alternatively, I could just clone or drag the block to enlarge it.…

Another writer, Alice Rawsthorn, asks what the true definition of an artist is in this modern world, deciding that it can be anyone. Through her piece, “Can Anybody be a Designer?” Rawsthorn discusses “Unnamed,” an exhibition held in South Korea. This exhibition explores innovation in places that one would normally never look; the code involved in a computer virus can be just as majestic as a rainbow barcode where each color signifies one of the four nucleotides of DNA (adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine). She argues, “the process [humanity] now recognize as design was practiced long before, whenever prehistoric men and women sought to improve their surroundings: say by making a clay bowl to drink from, rather than cupping their hands,”…

Going to universities has become a paved path for many high school graduated, and more students attend universities than ever before. In today’s education system, students memorize mechanically what instructors tell them, however, the lack of independence thinking skill is not what truth the education should be. While schools develop students to become thinkers, it is important to have a guideline in course syllabuses because some class materials may be harmful. Universities are places to train students to become “thinkers” to come out with new ideas through educating them, but students should be educated in a safe environment.…

It has just been as of late that talks of Tschichold and Dwiggins have extended to incorporate the full extension and majority of their work. That is on the grounds that the postmodern connection has supported differences and unpredictability, and given us a basic separation to evaluate Modernism and its repercussions. In the postmodern period, the line separating modern and classical, great and terrible, new and old, has, similar to such a variety of lines in graphic design today, turn out to be exceptionally blurry, distressed and broken. In the late 80’s, a hostile to tasteful motivation developed contrary to the group of Modernist "good design.…

In today's contemporary society, technology is one of the most influential and progressive resources that enables artists and designers to communicate across all mediums. Technology has developed rapidly, notably since the Industrial Revolution as the transition to new manufacturing developments was made, influencing virtually all aspects of daily life (citation). Technology has penetrated humanity’s lives significantly, and whilst some argue that humans are vulnerable to losing their capabilities from a heavy dependence on it, technology enables individuals to observe and explore the unseen, in turn allowing them to challenge their understandings of existence in and awareness of the world.
