Assisted Suicide Assisted suicide has been a much debated topic in recent years. Death with dignity or assisted suicide is a doctor prescribing medicines to assist someone who can not function or is terminally in death. Many people have their different views of what is moral. The terminally ill if they decided with assisted suicide could keep their dignity and preserve what people think of them to some people this is very important. Also it helps them take control of a situation that they have no control otherwise and can make death bearable. Death with dignity can take an eminence amount of pressure off of everyone involved especially the families of the terminally ill and elderly. Assisted suicide takes the stress off the family. It’s hard to watch someone you love slowly slip away and know that they are in pain. Andrew Solomon states in his book The Noonday Demon about his mother “One of her best friends had died of cancer, screaming in a hospital bed, and my own mother would not be doing the same thing.” In this quote it shows how much pain his mother went though watching her friend die suffering; that he and his other kin didn’t want to bear the pain that there mother did watching her friend die. This kind of situation makes it’s easy to grieve knowing that your loved passed away like they wanted. Studies show that family members who did not want there loved ones to go though with assisted suicide were left with regret after there death. It bothered the family members that the terminally ill patient did not die with there wishes in mind (Sayburn). Assisted suicide is criticized by people everywhere but it does people the family members in a way that no one that hasn’t been in the situation can
