Jacob Zuma, South Africa’s president, released the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Bill into law on the 29th of July, 2013. This Bill has three requirements that have to be met in order for human trafficking to have occurred. In relation to sex trafficking, there is a growing number of rape victims in South Africa. Although many cases go unreported, those that do translate to just under twenty seven cases per day. That could be anywhere from 0-27 cases of HIV and/or AIDS per day.
Another cause of AIDS and many other STDs is poor education and schooling. Many adults in the area are well informed and educated of the subject but as for the younger children, many have very poor education and learning experiences about the topic of STDs. There is a new treatment called Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy that has been introduced to South Africa. This therapy requires you to take three ARV drugs. This does not cure the infection but it does allow you to live longer and healthier. The treatment can also help prevent the spreading of the viruses. There have been any advances in ARV drugs since the first drug used to treat HIV came out, zidovudine. These HIV medicines prevent HIV from multiplying, which reduces the amount of HIV in your body. By reducing the amount of HIV in your body, HIV medicines also reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to others. If left untreated, HIV will attack the immune system and eventually progress to AIDS. This is a life long treatment that can keep you healthy for many years.
