The book talks about how thousands of kids stay home everyday in order to avoid bullies. This example was actually shown in the movie, one of the students that were being bullied made the comment that he had stayed home from school on several occasions because he was scared and he didn’t want to deal with the bullies. Another similarity I found was how the children that were being bullied tended to lack certain social skill that would help to diffuse a bullying situation. They didn’t know how to handle themselves or act socially “normal/acceptable” and this made them targets for bullying. This was definitely seen in the movie, the kids that weren’t seen as popular or were socially awkward were picked on. The last similarity I picked up on was how some bullies end up getting bullied themselves. There was one boy who said that he used to bully kids. This movie should be shown in junior high and high schools everywhere, kids need to see first hand what can come of bullying, I don’t think most kids realize the harm they are causing when they intentionally hurt someone physically or verbally. I fully believe that showing this movie could have a huge impact in schools. Once this movie is shown, I would have each teacher hold a small discussion in their classroom over what the kids thought of the movie. The kids need to understand that this discussion is a safe zone and that they can bring up anything that they feel needs to be said without disciplinary action being taken. Once the discussion has taken place and everything is talked about that needs to be and the students understand the harms of bullying I will then implement the zero tolerance
