South countries have a difficult time importing and accessing world markets because the majority lacks navigable rivers or efficient roads and rail networks this is a major dis advantage because this affects the cost of importing things that are necessary and the countries cant afford the cost to import them.

Also because global north countries are better developed and more advanced they are more advances technologically speaking. According to Kegley, Charles (2009) Differences in technological aspects has separated significantly the global north countries from the south. South countries have not advanced or progressed from their indigenous culture. According to Marie, Kristina (2014) the dependency south countries have with north countries is bad because south counties are vulnerable to cultural penetration. Cultural penetration is when the foreigners (corporations from the north) introduce their culture and try to replace it instead of the culture of the country. The dependency of the south countries also causes dualism. Dualism according to Marie, Kristina (2014) is the existence of two separate economic and social sectors operating side by side. This means that the country is divided in two because of the corporations of the north. One side of the country is rural, full of poverty and is ignored by the other sector; meanwhile the other sector is urban and developing. Although they are supposed to work together there is little interaction between the two sectors. As a result of this dependency colonialism is caused. Colonialism means according to the dictionary.com (2015) “the control or governing influence of a nation over a dependent country, territory, or people”. This means that the corporations from the north have almost full control and can influence the government of a country. Colonialism causes a division a labor where the dependent country is periphery where they are forced into cheap labor, export of raw materials and the import of finished goods.

Alleviating poverty is in the interest of most governments, but thriving financially seems out of reach or next to impossible to achieve by some countries. Why? Sachs suggests that every country has the ability to compete and become successful in the global economy, but there is no definite common method all countries can use to thrive. Sachs makes it apparent to the reader that solutions to the success of a country have to be used at the right time and, most of all, in the right country.…

Just like in colonialism, the Western world is ‘developing’ these ‘sovereign’ nations by imposing neoliberal practices that undertake their exploitative agenda. Colonialism throughout its history has been justified by a humanitarian agenda of bringing forth civilization to the uncivilized. This violent method of ‘development’ has even been deemed as a necessary evil by a countless amount of influential thinkers as colonialism was the only means of enlightening the ‘savages.’ Although all of the societies that were conquered during colonialism did not have an enlightened perspective, they all did have flourishing civilizations that in many ways were superior to the civilization created by the Western world. Even the early colonizers of the Aztec empire marveled at the beauty and cleanliness of this society.…
