Melissa Müller’s text Anne Frank: The Biography, proves that Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett’s play The Diary of Anne Frank is unjustified in using dramatic license because it makes the reader confused on the role of the resistance, he or she loses the actual account of the arrest, and it also removes the feelings of the gestapo. Miep was not arrested in the annex, which questions the reader why. In the play Miep was in the country.…

Anne’s diary begins on her thirteenth birthday, June 12, 1942, and ends shortly after her fifteenth. At the start of her diary, Anne describes fairly typical girlhood experiences, writing about her friendships with other girls, her crushes on boys, and her academic performance at school. Because anti-Semitic laws forced Jews into separate schools, Anne and her older sister, Margot, attended the Jewish Lyceum in Amsterdam. The Franks had moved to the Netherlands in the years leading up to World War II to escape persecution in Germany.…

The theme in the play is that you should always keep your head up and you should always look for the good in things like Anne did. That is not a situation which I would want anyone to be in or that I would be able to handle very well. Even though she knew these things were horrific, I think she was trying to make it look better. Anne Frank left a mark on this world not only to spread love and not hate, but to always keep your hopes up. She did not want to look at the reality of the situation.…

After Anne Frank’s diary was published in 1947, Goodrich and Hackett created a play based on her diary called “Diary of Anne Frank.” During World War II Jewish families and friends were forced to go into hiding when they deal with life and death circumstances. When people are faced with extreme difficulties, they can choose to think only of themselves, use their words to negatively affect others, or be a leader who guides and protects others. One person that decided to think of only himself in times of difficulty was Mr. Van Daan. A perfect quote that shows how he chose to think of only himself in a difficult situation is “And by the way, will you get me cigarettes.…

In her diary, Anne Frank, much like George Orwell, has a “desire to push the world in a certain direction” and to emphasize the kind of society other people should begin to strive toward. A Jewish teenager living in Holland during the Holocaust, Anne is forced into hiding and must bear witness the atrocities and anti-semitism brought forth by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. Using a diary she received for her birthday, she recounts her life during the Holocaust and her views on the world and how they gradually change as time goes on. Anne doesn’t actively strive to change the world or society too an extreme, however she does give the reader insight on how she felt during this time in her life and how things should be different. By using repetition,…

The most surprising, interesting or useful piece of information learned through reading Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Eleanor Roosevelt was the difference between life in the Secret Annexe and life today. Firstly, the members of the secret annex did not get the pleasure of three meals a day unlike most people today. For example, Anne states, “We’re going to be hungry, but anything is better than being discovered” (240).…

As previously stated, Anne’s optimism during the time she is forced into hiding allows her to write in a lighter, more cheerful tone. A diary entry written by Anne on Wednesday, June 24, 1942 gives off a more positive tone as she explains how Jewish people are no longer allowed to travel in a streetcar. Although it is much more difficult to travel without a streetcar, Anne merely discards this disadvantage and takes pleasure in the fact that she can still use her feet to travel from place to place. Etty, however, is far more anguished by this predicament than Anne is. In her diary, Etty writes that Jewish people cannot travel by tram, bicycle, or attend the grocery store and these many disadvantages weigh her down like a lead mass, making it blatant that these disadvantages take a much worse toll on Etty than they do Anne.…
