NICK
All alone with my thoughts. Just last month I was on the top of the world; in an exotic country of sand, camel spiders and terrorists. Even that was better than the present; I’m left only with a head to think and my heart to beat. That fucking car bomb left me a gimp… one arm, one leg, and charred more than a steak that was left on the grill a bit too long. It wouldn’t be too bad if I had a family to support me, unfortunately I wanted to wait until I finished my tour before I found a wife. That’s the kind of man I am, or use to be, the kind of man that cares about the woman I love before I even met her, now I’m just a freak.

I now live my life through my three daughters and my hospital. I decided to build this hospital to house those in dire needs; those that would otherwise not live. Don’t get me wrong, I do not wish to dabble in the work of god, but if it is his will that my patients live then I will see to it that they do not live in a sea of debt. I thought it would be a nice surprise to go up to the hospital and have a nice lunch with my daughter. I will wait, however, because I can see that she is busy.
MEETING
“Hello there Mr….” Heather looked down at the chart searching to find her veteran patient’s name. “Ah Mr. Thomas, my name is Heather and I will be helping you with your meals today. I may be in and out, but if you need anything you just ring this bell. I know it’s a bit old school but-“
“Its.. It’s fine ma’am. Please call me Nick”. He said in a struggling painful manor gazing upon her as she was absolutely beautiful. Her hair was a natural dark brown. It was curled just a little with a low finish of some hair product, reflecting the fluorescent light from the hospital’s cheap industrial lights in all different directions. I want my health back. I want my spirit back. I want love. I’ll fight for it all, because damn it I’ve been too ashamed to know that I still deserve it. Now I’ve found someone that has it and not only that has it but can give it to me. So now I say to you God I’ll fight; for me, for her, for fighting’s sake ill fight and I’ll win.
