Hello, I am Brittanie Waddell, editor of my school newspaper, The Devils' Tale, at Tallmadge High School. The Devils' Tale is a student-run newspaper that gets distributed to students and staff at the high school along with throughout the community.
I realize that you and Victoria Aveyard are very busy people. I was just curious if it is possible for me to get an interview with Victoria Aveyard about her Red Queen series. I often do book reviews for the newspaper and Red Queen is one of my favorite books. Getting an interview with the author seems like a great way to let other readers better understand the book and may make others want to read the book, along with getting her perspective of the plot of the story. Let me know if this is at

I’ve read a lot of books with heroes in them, but in The Outsiders, almost every character is a hero. This story is about a gang called the greasers. All the greasers could be considered a hero. David Foster Wallace’s The Devil Is a Busy Man begins with the sentence “Three weeks ago, I did a nice thing for someone” and begins again the conversation that echoes throughout the rest of his book, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, about the narcissistic nature of man. This story which qualifies the authenticity and “value” of a good deed based on its anonymity does so under the idea that if a good deed is made public by someone who did the deed then it was done more for one’s own personal benefit rather than any altruistic purpose. The nameless, sexless narrator then goes through an existential crisis in which they think that subconsciously they set the situation and acted in such a way as to allow him or her to be caught. Throughout…

Harvesting Native Americans: The Theme of Unwilling Sacrifice in “The Sin Eaters” Sherman Alexie’s “The Sin Eaters”, a short story found within The Toughest Indian in the World, tells the story of a young boy named Jonah and his presentiment dreams about war that ultimately come true. In this short story, Native Americans from all parts of the country are stripped from their reservations, bused to prison-like camps, and utilized against their will by the government. When reflecting on this text, I find a theme of unwarranted sacrifice to be prevalent throughout many points of the story. This idea of forced sacrifice ties into the overall message of Alexie’s “The Sin Eaters”, and strengthens the image of loss and pain that indigenous cultures have faced due to colonialism and the American government. The first part of the short story that I find the theme of sacrifice to clearly come into view is when Jonah and many other Native Americans are taken by military forces from their homes.…

There are many more complex stories that represent me even more adequately than the ones that correspond to the struggles I’ve faced; as there are many more stories significant to other various people, places and things…

Instead of a fiery portrayal as in the rest of the circles, the deepest stratum of hell is icy and frozen. In the Ninth Circle of Hell, the sinners are either murderers or traitors, and their punishment reflects their depravity. In Round 3 of the this Circle, the murderers/traitors of guests are encased in ice, all except for half their faces above the ice and their tears creating a frosty layer covering their eyes. These sinners are part of the frozen lake, Cocytus, because their act of betrayal was voluntary and each cold soul is now too powerless to repent for their sins. Here, Friar Alberigo and Branca d’Oria committed such a sin of betrayal to their guests on Earth that their tormented souls are in Hell, while demons inhabit their bodies…
