The Devildogs Monologue

Improved Essays
From the first moment Romiette, Julio, Ben, and Destiny started to create their plan, I knew it would go wrong. The plan, in short, was to send Romi and Julio out as bait to record The Devildogs threatening them. This part of the plan alone sounds dangerous, but it gets worse. As a safety precaution Destiny and Ben would trail behind the couple in a loud, slowly moving car. Since they began talking about the plan, I've been anxious for them, so naturally, this section had me on the edge of my seat. You knew something was going to go wrong. Draper has told us that she was a childhood friend of Romiette. We are also informed that she is now dating Terrell and running with The Devildogs. To sum it up, we know who Malaka used to be friends with Romi, but now she fraternizes with The Devildogs. What we don't know is how that transition happened, what her home life is like, and what her real thoughts are. That being said, I don't feel comfortable judging her because I feel I don't have enough information to do so. I sympathize with her. Malaka obviously is troubled in some way because she is in a gang. I am torn between dubbing her an attention deprived, well-meaning girl, or an inconsiderate beast. On pages 136-138, Malaka attempts to warn Romiette about what The Devildogs have planned for Romiette, but Romiette takes this action as an insult. This makes me want to accept Malaka as a misunderstood, mixed up girl who means well. On the other hand, this passage that makes want to see her as an antagonist. In this passage, she is deliberately rude to Romiette and Julio. I have not yet decided how to categorize Malaka, but as I continue to read, I hope I can conclude that she is an amazing girl. My ultimate hope for Malaka is to become friends with Romiette once again.ther is a cherry on top. I don't know if Julio will keep positive connections with Romiette and Ben throughout the book, but I hope he
