During the American Romantic era a new way of emphasis on emotions that were apprehension, horror and terror, and awe that it can be unraveled by analyzing the components of the story. The following pieces of romanticism I chose to analyse on how it works as a romantic piece and how it 's components are applied in the story are, 'The Devil and Tom Walker ' by Washington Irving, the second 'Thanatopsis" by William Brian Cullen, and finally 'The Pit and the Pendulum ' by Edgar Allan Poe. In these romantic pieces there is a foundation that is holding all the story together which is transcendental, meaning to transcend or to go beyond the normal human experience which these stories exemplify in their own unique way.
