Romanticism was an artistic movement in the 1800s where a group of dreamers wrote about the world around them. They rejected modern society and opted for a peaceful and natural lifestyle away from the busyness of the urban industrial revolution. This is in contrast to the rationalists, who wrote about success of journeys to city life. Unlike the rationalists, romantics such as Washington Irving; Stephen Benet; and Edgar Allen Poe, wrote fantasy-esque stories such as The Devil and Tom Walker, The Devil and Daniel Webster, and The Masque of the Red Death, respectively.
