Nature Of Ifemelu Relationship Essay

The development and nature of the relationships on 'Americanah ' have been quite influential in my understanding of the novel, as the story goes on from the past to present, the only theme that was constantly never changing was the recreations of the relationships, how insanely unstable this romantic connections where and how they continue to exist for a quite long term of time. A couple of those relationships are Ifemelu’s Parents, Aunty Uju and The General, and the many relationships of Ifemelu that I became to experience throughout the book, to my opinion Ifemelu’s relationships are the most unstable in many ways, as she herself is unstable. An example of this is when the general does not show up to a date with Aunty Uju on a two-day long Muslim holiday, “The General called to say he could no longer come”...”Aunty Uju worked feverishly, jerking the freezer compartment, slamming the cupboard”(pg.98) she was incredibly changed by the relationship with The General, she showed a disgusting side of her because of the stress that being the mistress of The General. These other, being a disturbingly calm relationship and going through the book showing an unstable valence was the relationship between Obinze and Kosi, they had a dysfunctional relationship, they never fight, but she is also paranoid and extremely jealous.
