Destructive Communication Essay

In understanding the different patterns of destructive communication there were many traits I have experienced. However, there are two patterns that I have found to continue to experience on daily bases. I found that the two patterns a dominating and aggressive. The reason I picked these two destructive patterns is because as I got older I becoming angrier. Since I was a young boy growing up was very hard for me. My mother raised me on her own and I had no male figure to help guide. In school, I was also the laughing joke every day. There wasn’t a day where I was at school and people stop bullying me. In the destructive communication reading, they explain that there are five steps in aggressive communication that manifest themselves. The steps are repartee; cliché; name-calling; and physiological degeneration. Repartee is first encountered when one makes witty remarks. The remarks are clever ways to degrade or bring someone down. Making them feel low. I have experienced this trait in my high school years. It was my sophomore year in high school. The time was around homecoming week when everybody is supposed to having fun and enjoying their week. During homecoming week, we had a different event each day to engage in school spirit. On Wednesday, students could dress up as a nerd because it was nerd day. Many students were interested and participated in this event. As for myself, I came to school in my normal attire like always. I wore a pair of khaki pants, button up shirt and some retro Air Jordan shoes. I wasn’t really into fashion at the time so I didn’t really care about keeping up with the trends. Nevertheless, on nerd day, people thought I was participating in the event. There many immature students saying that I was the best dress for the event. At the time, it didn’t make no different because I like what I had on. As the day went along class began and I knew I wasn’t the class I wanted to be in at the time. This was the class that I was usually bullied in. And to add salt to the wound, the teacher was not there in class. We had a substitute teacher. At my high school substitute didn’t really care about the students doing work. They were there just to collect a check. So I understood this meant trouble for me. Being in class for 55 minutes where the majority of student wanted to talk about me was horrible. It wasn’t like I could ditch the class. I would get in major trouble with the principal. I had no other choice but to go into hell’s kitchen. However, it was something about that day which made me
