As one of the firemen, Guy Montag’s job is to burn illegal books and the houses in which they were found. He never questions anything about his daily life and job. All that changes when he meets his young neighbor Clarisse, who opens his eyes to a time of peace, joy, and prosperity. Torn between his duty as a fireman and the new way his eyes look at the world of books and men, Montag secretly takes some books from the firehouse. As he reads them, he starts to ask himself if he’s walking on the right path. Later on, he meets a man named Faber, and together they plot to try to overthrow the local authorities.
