“The desire for Upward Social Mobility” The definition of upward social mobility is the movement from one social level to a higher one, often by changing jobs or marrying. Upward mobility is one of the most substantial and powerful ideas in American history. People from other countries come to America to live their dreams. They come to America to experience what they could never experience out of this country. Once people got to America the possibilities are almost endless. In most cases this is a positive thing, but with great power comes great responsibility. When people with great ambition but limited morals enter a land like this the consequences can be dire.

Abigail begins by leveling the charge of witchcraft against other townsfolk, which in their case is not a good situation. All you would have to do is accuse someone of this crime, and there is all the evidence you would need to prove they are guilty. When Abigail started to accuse people, she had not given much consideration to her end-game. She was only thinking of herself, like she has always done. Abigail has had to look after herself all her life, she didn’t have anyone to do it for her. Then John came along, he made her feel wanted, and she feel for him. Love had blinded her, like it does many people. Abigail had thought if Elizabeth would be out of the way, John would come running to her. In this passage from the text, it clearly shows how he changed his mind about Abigail.
“Abigail, now softening: And you must. You are no wintry man. I know you, John. I know you. She is weeping. I cannot sleep for dreamin‘; I cannot dream but I wake and walk about the house as though I’d find you comin’ through some door. She clutches him desperately.
