Define Topic In Denver, one of the most popular places for families with young children or early childhood centers is the Denver Children’s Museum. The Denver Children’s Museum (at Marsico) houses over 20 hands-on exhibits for children and their families to engage in. The museum’s philosophy encompasses the importance of creating an environment where both children and [their] adults learn through the use of play (Brenkert, 2012). Some exhibits include, but are not limited to: Art Studio (includes paint, crayons, clay, etc.), Teaching Kitchen (cooking), Kinetics! (motion and gravity), Village of Healthy Smiles (dental care), Big Backyard (includes costume, caves, “real-life” anthill, etc.) , Altitude (climbing a “mountain”), and many more! The museum has four different categories, and each exhibit falls under a certain one. The four categories are: explore, imagine, investigate, and create (Denver, 2015).
The Denver Children’s museum is important to the world of Early Childhood because it provides an opportunity for young children, ages 0-8, to engage in activities to promote positive learning through exploring, imagining, investigating, and creating. According to Dooley and Welch (2014), children’s museums provide opportunities for play-based learning and demonstrate how play can support learning. In addition, play-based museums allow children to take lead of their own learning (Dooley & Welch, 2014).
