According to the BLM ranger who was about the lead a group of school children, this eleven mile round trip trail climbs 1,400 feet, most of it in the last two and a half miles. The first three miles is open to bikes, which shortens the trip from over six hours to about four. The sign at the trail head says the first three miles are fairly level and the rest moderately strenuous. However, there are some places on the first section that can intimidate all but the most avid biker. The rest is very steep and includes 235 wooden steps in groups of four to fifteen, scattered along the trail.…
At Six Flags corner we have 19 roller coasters with the best being X2 a wing coaster that operates 20 stories high(200 feet), has a top speed of 76 mph, and with a track length of…
I remember the gut wrenching feeling in my stomach as my best friend and I approached the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Hershey Park, called SkyRush. I am not sure why I agreed to go on this roller coaster, considering most of the time at amusement parks I entertain myself with food, and miniature rides that stay level to the ground. Unlike me, my friend liked the rush and heart dropping feeling of being at the apex of a roller coaster and then dropping down at maximum speed. Personally, I preferred the ground, where I remained in full control of my own safety. Yet that afternoon I found myself standing in line for SkyRush.…
It’s a blast! We have recently just opened up a new ride in Hersheypark entitled “The Star Wars Coaster”. It’s an ongoing water slide that has many unique properties. Such as increased momentum from time to time which increases your acceleration throughout the ride. Imagine going through the galaxy and experiencing spacecraft, while in orbit you there are multiple space spots which gives your space pod a surge in speed.…
Once you are down the mountain, you are lifted towards a loop. In this loop, you are experiencing a centripetal force, or the force an object moving along a circular path to move toward the center of the path. You experience a large g-force in this loop due to your position upside down. When nearing the end of the loop, you experience projectile motion, as a result of being shot from the top of the loop throughout the rest of the roller coaster. You travel beyond the loop during this roller coaster and swirl around an over-sized snowman.…
It looks about 100 degrees which is very steep. We have to dump our trunk becuase it was too heavy to carry up the hill and it would make the wagon move too fast down the hill. We took everything out of it and put the stuff in empty bins and buckets we had until we can find a new place to put it. While were walking up the hill, rocks are falling down getting underneath the wheels and causing them to not move. We had to walk slow because the move movement caused stuff to fall down.…
As mentioned earlier, it's really like walking on an escalator downhill. Definitely one of the longest day hikes I've been on. It was nine hours up, and a five hours down with 30 minutes on the summit. The original plan was to pack camp immediately after the descent and make for the trailhead and the truck.…
Sometimes in life, one has to take chances. I was not sure of that until I strapped myself down in the scariest rollercoaster at Six Flags Fiesta amusement park. My heart was running a marathon as the ride climbed to the peak. My sweaty palms were glued on the back of a passenger’s headrest. My life was depending on it.…
The Launcher is a ride that will thrill all ages and suit any family. Launcher will take riders from Earth, to space, and then into the planet Mercury. Launcher is a ride that will suit all types of people. The car the riders sit in is a rocket ship that will sit up to 12 people. 60 mph is the top speed for Launcher, riders may think that is really slow for a roller coaster, but in order for riders to get the full experience for traveling through space, the ride has to travel slower.…
“How am I on this!” I yell as I wrap my sweaty hands tightly over the black side bars. The tallest roller coaster in the world, Kingda Ka. It looked down on us above our miniscule heads. I was with my best friend Jimmy, who is the crazy side of me.…
We went to Kings Dominion yesterday and it was really fun. I’m scared of height, so I never really ride anything, but yesterday my friends force me on the Domination ride, it was one of those big roller coasters. I keep on telling them I can’t ride it and I’m really scared, but everybody just ignores me while they dragged by my arms and the other pushes me from behind to get on. Once we got down, they asked how was it…
The origin of the roller coaster comes from Russia, in a particular area of what would later become St. Petersburg , where they sent sledders down 70-foot high slopes that were wood-framed ice slides. They have been doing this as early as the 16th century. The roller coasters were built out of wood with ice more than two but not a lot of inches thick covering the surface. There were stairs attached to the back of the slide that the riders climbed and then they sped down the fifty degree drop and climbed up the stairs of the slide that laid parallel and opposite to the first one.…
“Welcome to the superman. Dramatic music plays. Please watch your step as you board the ride.” I am so reluctant to do this, I think. My brother looks over his shoulder.…
With the sun shining, the way back felt much easier. The weather became warmer and we could clearly see our path. As I had predicted before, there was no major difficulty we faced in climbing this mountain. As soon as we reached the second base, my friend, Michael, challenged me to get back to the first base in just 1 hour. I accepted this challenge in order to prove my mountain climbing skill.…
One who has ever been to an amusement park knows that this is no simple task. Finding the line tested my patience, it made me wonder if this one excursion was worth the nausea and the fear that this roller coaster would entail. I had heard of this hunk of metal, constructed to look like a racecar, and knew that it would certainly test my courage. The Dragster was recorded as 120 mph, the third fastest roller coaster in the world, and had the highest peak in the park.…
