In the Demographic Transition Model, Canada is currently in the Low Stationary stage which is Phase 4. There are many other developed countries that are in this phase like USA, UK, Japan, and Australia. For a country to be in this stage it would have to have both birth and death rate that is low which is a result of good healthcare, family planning etc. In the chart shown above, Canada has a low birth rate of 10 per 1000 people and a low death rate of 8 per 1000 people in the year of 2014. Even after 25 years, the countries population rates stay fairly low, which will maintain the stable population. Countries in this phase are mainly the Least Developed Countries and that is because of the high birth rates but very low death rates. With the birth rate being high and the death rate being very low this results in a rapid increase rather than a stable increase. In the chart shown above, we see the birth rate being 36 per 1000 and the death rate being 10 per 1000 for the year of 2014. This clearly shows the vast differences between the two rates for this country and shows how this country is going through a rapid increase. The country has very poor healthcare and if diseases still continue to occur just like the Ebola virus, it can cause a lot of harm to the population. The population already does not have a great working population and for diseases like this to occur, it will cause more damage. The country needs a strong working population so it can earn more revenue for the country and help with the economy. The government would also have to focus more on better healthcare for the country in order to have a stable population. With stability the country will be able to overcome many implications that can arise because of the low older population. If the population does stay the same for the elderly, this could result in children having to work to help families and children would not be able to get the proper education they need.
