The act of transitioning is basically leaving a topic to enter another smoothly with the help of words. It also helps set up a order of time whether it is being explained in sequential time or jumped around. An excellent example is given in the text where Mandell explains that a student writing about her childhood used transition words to create cohesion between sentences. The student began by talking about “when I was little” on her first paragraph, to then adding, “In the years to follow”, to help show a change over time that still had to do with her childhood in two different chronological periods. Specificity is important when writing or telling narratives. It is that of which helps develop a story. It would not give off the same nuance to say, my husband past away September 11, 2001, rather than, It was at 8:45 of September 11, 2001 when my husband past away. Informal or formal writing are like blocks of details stacked on top of the another to create a beautiful structure. How strong would a structure be without the glue between the blocks? The glue in this case are the points mentioned that wove ideas together. The use of transitioning, having correct verb tense and avoiding repetition help narrate a story in a proper way. People tell stories to share ideologies and personal moments that another being may relate with. The best way is if the person reading can get through the reading smoothly and without confusion, ending with satisfaction of having read a properly written
