Deeper Than an Advertisement For hundreds of years, the business of deforestation has been booming. At the same time, it has catastrophic effects on the environment. According to conserve-energy-future.com, since approximately one and a half acres of forests and jungles are being chopped down every second, it is estimated we will have no forests left within the next hundred years or so. As a result of having our forests die, our wildlife population dies alongside with it. The website also states that upwards of 28,000 species will be extinct in the next twenty-five years as a consequence of deforestation. A print ad, made by a leading wildlife organization in India, Sanctuary Asia, graphically illustrates what it means to cut down forests …show more content…
In big bold letters, we see “Sanctuary Asia”, the name of the company. The slogan shown is “when the wood goes, the wildlife goes”. It is important to take into consideration the size of the organization versus the slogan, to the left of it. It is roughly five times the size, which means the author values the organization 's name over the slogan. Further, what the author wants you to remember, is the organization’s name above all else. The font is also very simple and easy to read, in a color that is clearly visible among the jungle background. By enlarging the text and making it easy to read, they are expanding on the total number people who will read “Sanctuary Asia”. By including the above slogan the author gives in only a few words an explanation of the photo. This emphasizes the effect that deforestation has on the ecosystem. It is in small font to only be a reminder to what is already perceived in the photo. The color of the slogan is the same green as the name of the organization. This is so that the words are easily seen amidst the dark green jungle. The size, font, and color convey that the author believes this company is important and worth …show more content…
These play a crucial role to the significance and the way that the reader perceives the picture. When first looking at the image the different cool tone, shades of green in the background help the consumer to zone in on what is important, the cheetah. We can prove this further by observing the different shades of green. The dark shades are toward the outer edges in a way to frame the cheetah, while the light shade of green is used as a tool to highlight the animal. Both are cool tones which help accent the warm red and orange tones that are displayed on the cheetah’s coat and muscles. Now taking a closer look at the focus of the advertisement. The cheetah’s blood is bright red and is the first thing that the viewer sees when looking at the picture. The second thing that the viewer would see is the brown with hints of orange tree. This is also a bright color to signify the importance it plays. All bright colors demonstrate the deforestation that the advertisement is trying to bring to light. In the background the light green shows the lack of trees and jungle plants, another example of deforestation. The cheetah print pattern also allows the viewer to get a better understanding of the message the advertisement is trying to get across. The print shows that there are real animals out there being killed and losing their homes because of this issue. It allows the viewer to identify the animal in order to make them
