The television program that I feel displays social deviance is “Power” It is about a man that grew up in the streets selling drugs on the corner. He is now married and a business man running a successful nightclub. In secret, he is becoming the biggest drug dealer in his city. He is cheating on his wife with a federal agent that is looking for him under his street name “Ghost.” I selected this program because by day Ghost is this well dressed businessman with a lovely family. However, at night he is a well-dressed drug dealer and murderer. Society label drug dealing as a taboo and should not be a part of the norm. Ghost has an organization of sellers that sale all forms of drugs from cocaine to manufactured pills. The government has deemed

According to Anna Damm who co-wrote “The Effect of Growing Up in a High Crime Area on Criminal Behaviors” with Christian Dustmann states, “We estimate the effect of the average crime conviction rates of youth in the municipality and year of assignment on the probability of being convicted of an offence committed later in life. Our main finding is that youth criminality in the area of assignment has a strong positive effect on conviction probabilities for young men, but a negative effect for young women, which is concentrated at a young age.” ( damm, 2009) Affirming cultural values and norms are based on research young man who grows up in and participate in criminal activity as a youth will grow up to commit crimes. Ghost never was arrested for any drug crimes according to his friend the reason he has the street name Ghost is he has always had the benefit or the abilities to disappear. Ghost understands the mortal boundaries and he does not want to continue in the activites of being a drug dealer and a murderer. He understand this is wrong he has children and he is aware drug dealer don’t grow old either they have a life in prison or they die. He just can’t seem to get out of this circle. I don’t know how this deviance promotes social unity other than the federal agents working with other informants to get the main head of the organization
