Research is accountable for all intents and purposes of medical breakthroughs there have been. Medicines, cures, vaccines and other treatments are all mostly possible because of animal experimentation research. Essentially nearly everybody alive has profited from the restorative advances made practical through animal testing. Galton, the founder of experimental psychology, used animals such as pigs and apes to conduct his experiments. Animal research became more organized and a huge part of science during the early 19th century. “Every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals.” (California Biomedical Research Association 1.) Open-heart surgery was only made possible through the research that had been done on animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, and rats. “Open-heart surgery saves the lives of about half a million people each year… thanks to decades of animal research.” (Max Planck 1) Many people have been saved through this procedure that had been found through experimenting on animals. “Death rates are declining because of advances in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention made through animal research.” ( American Physiological Society 1) It is true that animals are dying through the process of researching on them, but death rates are also declining because of what scientists have discovered through animal research.
While researching on animals, scientist have found many treatments, such as cancer treatments. “ Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy drugs, radiation therapy, and various surgical techniques were developed using rodents, dogs, and monkeys.” ( American Psychological Society 6) Through animals research cancer treatments were found that save millions of people and is used everyday. Treatments we use today can be traced back to experimenting on

Just as far as neuroscience goes, animal testing has revealed very significant results in the way of medical advances. Research done on rats an monkeys, for example, has helped us to better understand PTSD, and it is because of this better understanding that scientists have been able to develop medications to help people who suffer from PTSD cope with aspects of the disorder. Animal research has also been significant in understanding and helping to treat Parkinson’s disease. It was because of the research done on rabbits and mice that scientists discovered that Parkinson’s affects dopamine levels in the brain. Animal research is still important today when studying current diseases and disorders.…

Simon Festing and Robin Wilkinson, in their article, The Ethics of Animal Research, published in June 2007, address the topic of animal experimentation and testing and argue that it has greatly benefitted medical research and that discontinuing its use would have serious consequences in public health. Festing and Wilkinson support their claim first by establishing their credibility with the use of many reputable sources, second by utilizing data and statistics, and lastly by taking into consideration the perspectives of the opposing side. The overall purpose of the authors is to clarify the current issues with animal research in order to prove that testing animals is still the best solution. The authors employ a scientific tone in order to present an argument that appeals to individuals that have diverse views…

We live longer and healthier lives than ever before. Whilst there have been remarkable improvements in the human environment, animal research has played a major part in developing improvements in human health. Animal research advanced the treatment of infections, helped with immunisation, improved cancer treatment and has had a major impact on managing heart disease, brain disorders, arthritis and…

When animals are used in medical research, it is great way to uncover the mysteries and find treatments or even cures for various diseases. For example, in Shany Sun’s Young Scientists Journal article, “The Truth Behind Animal Testing,” the author says, “…medical advancements that have been discovered through animal testing include penicillin, blood transfusions, insulin (that controls blood sugar levels of diabetics), kidney transplants, and vaccines for polio and meningitis” (Sun 1). This example shows just how beneficial animal testing in medical research can be. These medical advancements would not have been available for years if animal testing had not…
