(WHO, 1978) Primary health care is based on the application of the relevant results of social, biomedical and health services research and public health experience. (WHO, 1978) Components of primary health care includes at least: health education, promotion of food supply and proper nutrition, maternal and child health care, adequate supply of clean water, immunization against major diseases with provision of essential drugs and prevention and treatment of diseases.(WHO,1978) The Alma-Ata Declaration wanted to strengthen and support primary health care through various sectors. Strengths that can be highlighted from PHC, is that it looks at the total health care which ensures an equitable distribution of resources and that the state is responsible for the health of their people. Some limitations concerned with PHC are the fact that it’s more costly to implement and takes a long time to process. With this emerging declaration you can see little anticipation and slow reactions that may occur because of the new adapting health challenge. Also, with this new health challenge it would be hard to monitor and evaluate the development of the PHC components. Most governments put political and economic ideology first but put funds to the Global Fund aside. They are more preoccupied with wars and military actions, where they empty billions of dollars into. This is why I agree that PHC should reappear into the world again. It should make a clear statement and PHC representative should be active at all times trying to get the national and global levels to participate. Even though very little practice of Alma-Ata practice was achieved in the world, I believe it should be an outline for international healthcare in the future. The declaration is very broad and is hard to implement in developed countries. They should make changes, where health organizations start at the local levels. If they start at the roots and engage with the communities, they can find the complications of each individual. They can find out what needs should be brought to the
