To follow the current affairs, various Thai institutions at a higher education setting are developing their teaching and learning approaches to serve Thai graduates to become ASEAN citizens in order to gain professional qualification in the competitive market. At present, top university authorities in Thailand are energetic and dynamic to get involved in the student development in order to improve the quality of graduates. Moreover, the authorities not only aimed to develop their graduate but also to establish a reputation among ASEAN and Asian leading universities. Thus, a radical rethink of instructional policy is one of their many enthusiasms. As a consequence, the graduates’ competencies in content knowledge and English proficiency will be taken into consideration when the decision on teaching and learning development is made. Khon Kaen University (KKU) is a good example of taking those aspects in deep concentration and contemplation. …show more content…
The university campus is situated in the centre of the Northeastern region of Thailand. Currently, KKU is one of the top universities in Thailand. The most vital mission of the university is to train future world citizens to work in regional and international workplace. In addition, KKU aims to become one of the leading universities in Asia and one of 400 leading universities ranked in the world. At this university has more than 40,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in 22 colleges with more than 2,200 academic staff (KKU, 2015). To meet the university’s aims, KKU has been introducing a new instructional policy, the so-called ‘English as a medium of instruction’ (EMI) to content teachers at all levels. A number of colleges are accepted EMI as a new teaching and learning approach to implement, including the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
