Decision Making While you were in high school we all know you played around and didn’t take things serious, but as you’re growing up and now noticing real life by going into college. College can be very fearful, you can also add a lot of stress on yourself when first beginning college. As us young adults we picture the life of college and how it’s going to be. College is where young adults mature as independent men and women. We are young so we think that college is going to be filled with parties and typically a laid back lifestyle. College isn’t like high school you don’t stay with your same friends or have your childish games you mature, you meet new friends, and new teachers. When going off to college young college students get homesick when they get home sick it’s very hard to be able to think straight because it may drop your grades and put tons of stress on you. You may think about coming home all the time or you may have anxiety, depression, stress. There are different types of anxiety and stress levels that new college students have. The reason causing this is thinking about the distance away from home, you may start slacking on your class work. You could start failing out which adds a lot more stress on yourself, also the type of environment your in can hinder your decision making. Most people can’t adapt to a new environment. According to Christopher Drew “You may not know what to do with the rest of your life at age 18, but you can cover base with prudent planning” (Para 11) as you’re young you have many different decision and choices. While you’re in high school you think about what kind of college you’re going to, what career is best for me, and how long will this take. College students need to think about how much they have to pay out of pocket and the further they go the more money it’s going to cost. Yes, they can get loans and free money, but think about all the money you have to pay back by getting loans. Most young college students should start off at a community college then move to a university. The end result of these challenges are college students dropping out of college by not being able to handle with all the stress their dealing with and for the students that’s off in college they may drop out and move back home and find a closer college to where they live. Another end result could be students putting pressure on their selves which can cause anxiety and depression.
