I had no substantial idea what I wanted to study until an evening the summer after my sophomore year in high school. My mom invited me to watch livestream of Senator Wendy Davis filibustering the now-famous Senate Bill 5, which greatly restricted access to abortion in Texas. At the time I hadn’t even taken high school government and I knew nothing about the process I was watching. However, once my mom explained the bill, I realized I agreed with Senator Davis and her supporting colleagues and admired her strength in standing up against an unrepresentative majority. That very night I started thinking about how I could shape my career so I could help women like that too.

Understanding and spreading knowledge about the oppression of underprivileged people will probably be very relevant to my future career. For that, I’m already well-versed in many social issues and could bring that knowledge to the organization. I’m also a dedicated and stubborn person when it comes to projects. I definitely do not give up, so I would keep up with all the other passionate OJ members and be able to encourage them when necessary. As a Tap class member, I’d help the Tap Project with my dedication, obsessive organization, and creativity. I have many passions I can bring to our Tap class, but I’d specifically want to focus on helping survivors of sexual assault on campus if possible. I believe the Orange Jackets could do a lot to help them feel more comfortable and find justice, and I want to be a part of …show more content…
I still live it, in fact. One of my only goals in life is to use my privilege to help others who aren’t as fortunate. I have so many ways in which I’d love to execute this, and I’m still working out exactly which direction I’ll go in. A few years ago, I wanted to run for office. Currently I’m thinking I’d like to go to law school and work somewhere regarding the justice system. Two positions especially interesting to me right now are working for an organization challenging unjust laws or working for the rights of the accused as a public defender or with a group like the Innocence Project. Next week, I might have some new idea I think I’m better suited for. Evidently I’m not sure exactly where I’m going, but I know I will find a niche I’m passionate about and devote my time to
