At the start of the 21st century there have been more and more new innovations and technology. Of course with all new technology and innovations comes with argument and controversy. One of these many innovations is using embryonic stem cells for curing disease. Using stem cells creates a controversy among the world because of how scientists obtain these stem cells and the issues stem cells can create.
There are two types of stem cells, adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. According to a 2015 informational article written by the National Institutes of Health about stem cells, “Embryonic stem cells, as their name suggests, are derived from embryos. Most embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized in vitro—in an in vitro fertilization clinic—and then donated for research purposes with informed consent of the donors. They are not derived from eggs fertilized in a woman 's body” (National). Stem cells from embryos are the easier of the two to obtain because scientists grow them in a lab unlike adult stem cells. Adult stem cells reside in certain organs like the brain.
